Dice have been a part of gaming for… well I don’t know how long, but let’s just say when the average person thinks of gaming the image of a pair of d6’s pops into their mind. And a d12 brings up images of a D&D session…
Some games use dice for dictating the outcome of a conflict or the value of a resource. Other games rely on the dice themselves to drive the gameplay.
Dice games have seen quite the resurgence lately, especially with games such as Quarriors and King of Tokyo becoming favorites of the industry. And this past year there have been quite a few Kickstarter campaigns for new and innovative dice games: Ninja Dice, Dungeon Dice, Dungeon Attack, and Dungeon Roll, just for starters. Not to mention real-time dice-rollers such as Space Cadets: Dice Duel.
Even our very own Firestone enjoys a good dice-roller every now and then, and we all know how he despises randomness and chaos! (Hey! I do no– oh, wait, yeah I do.)
So the question we’re asking today is: What’s your favorite dice game?

Theology of Games 
My favorite game that uses dice in a small way is Age of Steam. My favorite “dice game” is probably King of Tokyo right now, just because my kids like it so much. Then there are the strategic dice games, such as Feld’s Castles of Burgundy and Macao, where you’re rolling dice, but there are ways to manipulate them. I like those, too.
My wife and I are big fans of dice games. My favorite (though I haven’t played it in a long time) is probably Dragon Dice. My wife’s is definitely Cosmic Wimpout. I know you only asked for a favorite, but I want to list some more that are right up there! Cookie Fu, Quarriors, Roll Through the Ages, Zombie Dice, Martian Dice, Dungeon Roll, (Elder Sign – if that qualifies). We like Catan Dice a lot more than that other Catan.
Okay, I’ll stop there! 🙂
Dragon Dice came out at the same time I started getting into Magic. Only one of those two got way too much of my money…
When you say dice game the first one that comes to mind is VisualEyes, though I haven’t played it in over a year. Dicecapades is another one that I’ve played from time to time, but it’s a game best suited for a lot of people. I think the best thing about that game is that it comes with upwards of 100+ dice. I think Crush would have to be my favorite at least for now, but I don’t know all that many.
I’ve seen VisualEyes at Target (I think). I’ll have to look more closely now.
That’s easy – backgammon!
For something from this century, Quarriors is usually a good time – and looking forward to my copy of King’s Forge showing up…
My dad and my son like playing Backgammon together, and I like watching them do it. Quarriors is lots of fun.

One of my favorite light weight dice games is When Zombies Attack by Attack Dice. It gets overshadowed by Steve Jackson’s Zombie Dice (which is basically a zombie themed Farkle) but it is way more interactive with other players and an enjoyable super fast filler. But Quarriors and King of Tokyo top my list of more in depth dice games.
That being said, there are some great dice games that kickstarted last year and should be hitting the market soon! Can’t wait to see what they bring to the Table!
My daughter loves Dungeon Roll but she loves rolling dice in general. My personal favorite is Kingsburg.
I have Dungeon Roll but still haven’t had a chance to play it.
Never tried Kingsburg, though it made its way through our game group when it came out. I was just in other things. Also, I might have been scared away by the hearing it had dice… 🙂
Have you played Dice Town? It’s very “French” (read: chaotic) but a ton of fun with the right crowd?
French and chaotic?! [sarcasm]Those are two of my favorite things![/sarcasm]
I’m just kidding. I know it’s been played at our group; I’ve just never been in one of the games.
Elder Sign is my favorite. Still ways to influence your dice if you play smart, so that’s always a nice aspect.
Can’t Stop is still the classic dice game… and more recently, we deeply love Dice Town (as long as you play with the expansion)!
Yes! Totally forgot about Can’t Stop! That also has the added benefit of being great with nongamers.

As for the d12, the one game that rocks it harder than any other is Killer Bunnies, which I think comes with eight or ten d12s in different colors.
Heck, I forgot one of my favorites and one I think that has the best-looking dice in all of board gaming: Seasons.
